Hi ... doing some research for a book and I'm wondering what the legal blood alcohol limit is that is considered legally intoxicated in Mexico... and does it vary by state?

I'm not sure, but judging from the folks I see riding around with open containers while driving there probably isn't much enforcement. I do see checkpoints set up around Semanta Santa, but other than that it appears to be more relaxed than the USA or Canada.

Your question interested me, so I ask one of my local friends. He said that he did not know the legal limits because it is mostly what the cop thinks -- if he says you're drunk, you go to jail.

There may be state laws defining "under the influence," but the reality of it is that in Mexico the police/Judaical system is not overly restricted by the letter of the law.

I know this does not help your book, but that's life in Mexico.
