Hello all!!
I'm getting married on the 31st of May in the Riviera Maya...Can't wait!! Just wondering about customs in Cancun. We want to birng our wedding favors with us but are afraid of taxes/tariffs because some of the items were made in China. Has anyone out there had problems with customs officials or been charged a ridiculous tariff to bring in goods that were made in China? Thanks |

It depends on what exactly what the favors are. Most likely it could be a problem, especially if they are breakable (glass coasters), meltable (candles) or edible. But if they are a metal/wood placecard holder or something like that they should be ok if you pack them up right. - My Wedding Favors
Hope that helps. |

If you are having a destination wedding, I would suggest personalized boxes, bags or ribbons. Utilize something original from the area to give to your guests and package it in your own packaging. The personalized packaging is lightweight and easy to carry. You don't have to worry about customs, melting nor breakage. If it is a favor that you absolutely must have from the US, contact customs before purchasing, just to make sure. Some resorts will allow you to have items delivered to them before you arrive. This is another option. Their consultants can give you an idea of items that are allowed into the country. - Escape Concepts

You should check directly with them on that. If they are going to tax you on something then they are required to tell you what the tax is on and how much. I am pretty sure it's standard procedure. Are you bring wedding favorswedding favors and gifts on board?
