Default Jocotepec, Ajijic, Chapala and Mezcala

After driving thru Mazamitla from Colima and along the south shore of Lake Chapala we made it into Jocotepec and found the motel Villas Posada del Sol. Hardly anyone there in March and he was working on the few singles so we got a double (2 bdrms, kitchen and living room) for about 380 pesos. We stayed there 2 nights while checking out the area.

We spent about 2 hours walking around Ajijic (not my favorite place) and then on to Chapala, eating lunch and spending most of the day there. We drove east of Chapala out to Mezcala and talked to the boatmen that will take you out to the island. The island has an old fort that dates back to the Revolution - and the boat ride is much cheaper and shorter than leaving from Chapala. On the way back we stopped at the restored but not yet open Chapala railroad station.

Jocotepec is fun and very Mexican. We found two good places to eat; the China Inn and La Carreta. China Inn is on the main street coming into town and La Carreta is just a few blocks south of the church off the plaza. Jocotepec has a good market and a lively plaza.
