I am moving to Cancun in a couple of months.
1. Does anyone have any suggestions for a shipping company to transport my vehicle. 2. Do I need an International Driver's License? Or is my USA driver's license sufficient? 3. I would like recommendations for automobile insurance. I assume I need to purchase it in Mexico. Thank you kindly. Harley Mom |

1. Shipping can be a bad move. To the border okay. Border south, trouble. Only owner or family member can drive the US vehicle in Mexico. Plus, shippers here aren't quite as concientious.
2. US/state drivers licence is all that is required. However, when you get to one of the check points in Mexico, you will have to pay a fee, get a sticker (only available after you qualify for FM-3) get your visa or FM-3 stamped. 3. The best insurance company I have found is: SAN XAVIER MEXICO INSURANCE. Robert Ocosta is in Nogales, Arizona You can contact him at Mexicobob@aol.com or call him toll free at: 888-377-1570 |

We moved to San Miguel in May and brought our vehicle. It was a pretty simple procedure at the adunda. We had contacted Steve Patton online and purchased our Mexican insurance. He overnighted the policy to us and we paid him once we arrived.
Our research showed that you will need to keep your US insurance also and what is critical is to have a local agent who would be available in case of an accident. The Mexican way is to take EVERYONE to jail and then figure out the liability. It was also recommended to us to get an International drivers' license then if we were stopped for speeding they could take that license and not interfere with our trip. It was so easy. We went to the local AAA office and paid $10 and got it right then. They even took the photos for us. We had State Farm Insurance in the US and our agent allows us to "suspend" our policy while we are in Mexico and reinstate it once we cross the border. It saves alot of money. If you want any other information - Just contact me. |

Mexico To Allow More Used Cars From U.S., Canada NBC San Diego - 1 hour, 26 minutes ago
MEXICO CITY -- President Vicente Fox Tuesday issued a decree allowing Mexicans to import 10-to 15-year-old cars from the U.S. and Canada. The decree also allows Mexicans to register vehicles that are in that age bracket and already in Mexico -- either illegally or with temporary permission. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now the issue that needs to be addressed is, does this apply only to Mexican nationals, and if so, will businesses pop up that can provide this service to foreigners? Either way, it will have a huge impact on used car sales both in Meixco and the U.S. I can see a huge new market for used cars here in the states bound for Mexico with this one single decree.
