We plan on leaving Yuma for our winter base in La Peņita de Jaltemba in the middle of Oct.
and we are interested in exploring Ciudad Obregon on the way. The problem is, can't find any place to park the RV and stay for a day or two. An electric hookup would be nice, but not necessary. Any info would be appreciated. Also, we heard this spring that the road from Navojoa to Alamos was under construction and pretty rough. Any info on that would be nice too.![]() |

Hi stan and linda, why do you want to go explore there? In my many drives through mexico i have found that place has been dirty and given me a bad vibe, furthermore i have heard that there are alot of unsavory folks there who run there operations there. Why not check out Guaymas ive found that to be a nice town right on the coast with a much better vibe. How long you been going to la penita? I grew up part time in lo de marcos 1971-1989. Have you ever stayed at the pequeno paraiso in lo de marcos its a good little rv park right on the beach. If you need any tips or good people to make contact with let me know. VIVA MEXICO!!!

That's a strange reaction Dano - we've always found Ciudad Obregon very clean and tidy, amazingly so in fact. However, I'm not sure there's enough there to warrent spending a couple of days. Alamos has so much more even if the road up is a little pot holey at times. Try posting on:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/alamosnews/ for news on the road. There are a couple of RV parks there, one on the way up and one through town. |

Dano,
Why do I get the impression that you are young and having reminiscences of childhood travel in Mexico. Your information seems way out of date and a little hazy. Much of Mexico has changed a lot in just the past five years or so. Even where we live, it is hard to keep up with the changes in order to give folks on the forums accurate and timely information. Come back, explore and get updated. Then post again with your fresh impressions. It is a beautiful country!

Yes im young 34, and yes its been a while since i drove from WA to my home away from home lo de marcos nay. That was in 1998, and i do know that things are changing very rapidly my wifes parents live there in lo de marcos now and i am always being updated as to the growth and the problems which are arising due to it. I am just doing my best to help people out RV. I was born down there and we owned a house on the beach for almost 20 yrs, so dont paint me as inexperienced I have seen and done enough in mexico to fill a book and in no way am i trying to mislead anyone, I will not sugar coat things though even if it makes me unpopular.

I assume that "lo de marcos nay." means 'Lo de Marcos, Nayarit'. I also assume that it is on the coast. An absence of eight years does allow for a lot of change but your personal experience on the background of the area can be helpful to those thinking of moving or travelling to that area. My own experience of the coast is limited to recent visits to the Manzanillo and Mazatlan areas and I tend to concentrate on what it is like to live at Lake Chapala and the central highlands, in general. I think we should all be careful not to generalize too much, as Mexico has lots of cultures, climates and a varied geography/geology. I hope you do get a chance to return soon.
Que le viaje bien, amigo.
