Default Online map showing rivers of Mexico

I have been trying to find a map online that shows the rivers of Mexico. I have the Gia Roji atlas and map but several rivers are not named on it.

Specifically, I would like to find the route of the Rio Lerma.

Thanks

Joseph -

You might try some of the Mexico map links at:

http://www.embassyworld.com/maps/Maps_Of_Mexico.html

and

http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/mexico.html

I have been searching (unsuccessfully, thus far) for a content-rich, interactive physiographic map - not sure such an animal exists.

Buena suerte y que le vaya bien.

You might go to INEGI. Instituto Nacional de Estradistica geografia e informacion. They have maps of just about everything.

Default I usually use this site

http://www.maps-of-mexico.com/mexico_states.shtml

Pick the state you want, and then you can zoom into one of the panels; they show contours and river names at pretty high detail. I'm not quite sure which state(s) the Lerma is in, or I would have linked to them directly.

Thanks for the tip, Mofles. INEGI has a pretty modern online GIS web site which will seem pretty intuitive for ArcInfo, MapInfo, etc. users. The link is:

http://galileo.inegi.gob.mx/website/...r.htm?pagant=1

I zoomed in on the vicinity of the Rio Lerma, and by turning the different layers/themes on and off, eventually came up with a detailed hydrographic map - now if I can only figure out how to turn the map labels on, I'll be in business.

Hasta luego

Thanks for the advice and the links.

INEGI is a great source but not online. It was never designed for the non-professional cartographer to use I was told at the office in GDL. I can buy a hard copy map but it is too large for me to scann, even in sections, so that I can refer to it when I need to. I have already been to the others without any success.

I'll try LIB.UTEX.ED again. They have a potentially good map @ http://mexicochannel.net/maps/rivers.gif and every major river is nicely numbered. There is no legend to tell what river the numbers are indicating, though.

Default Map making project for Mexico

Thanks for the great resources, especially the link to the INEGI map. I've browsed through their site many times but could never find what I want.

As a trained geographer & surveyor (my previous life), I am looking for Mexico GIS data that can be imported into MapView/ MapInfo to create decent maps of Mexico, similar to what some other sites have. I know INEGI must be the source, but haven't had the time or patience to dig through the site to get what I want.

If anyone is interested in this topic, or would like to collaborate with me on the creation of a series of digital maps for Mexico, please let me know. This is an open invitatation to anyone with some experience in using map making software, who likes maps, or who knows where to find the needed data set to create such maps.

As a fellow map-nerd, may I recommend this site:

http://www.bicimapas.com.mx/

The guys that run it provide a bunch of free maps as well as a few paid maps of all of Mexico; so they might have some great leads on where to get the kind of data you are looking for in an importable format. Their GPS topo maps of some of the major natural areas of Mexico are fabulous; The accuracy of the Puebla one is really unbeleivable when driving.

Stryker,
Thanks for the good lead, and it has an English section. I'll be contacting them shortly to see what they have.
