Travel visa for Baja in VW Westfalia??

Hi,
We are driving over border (TJ) to vacation in Baja in our old aircooled Westy. Heard these are great for Baja travel...has anyone here done this?

Also, is it good idea to stop at Border and get a travel/visit visa before entering?

Only one of the two of us has a US passport, both have other CA ID. Is that good enough? how far down can you go into Baja without US Passport and will the travel visa help?

Yes, I do this every year in my 79 Westy. Lots of fun and you can go places where the big rigs can't. I suggest crossing at Tecate instead of TJ. E-mail me at fredb869@hotmail.com if you want any info. I know a lot of camping places and also eating places.

Normally you need a either a passport or a drivers licence and official birth certificate to get a tourist visa. In Baja it's going to be more a matter of time than distance. You don't need a tourist visa in the border zones (and Baja) for stays less than 72 hours ... longer stays you do.

Double check that info 'cause I just picked it up from reading .... never experienced it

Coming back into the states you will want to have good ID as well
