Anyone have a recommendation for good eating in Mexico? I'm not talking about taco joints or street food, but good, sit down restaurants.

Jack, there are so many good sit-down restaurants - I and others proably will be able to offer personal suggestions if we knew what type of food, environment and price range you're looking for. Thanks!

I'm mostly interested in Mexican, not Italian, French, etc. A few places I've been, but not all, are; Fonda el Refugio; Cafe Tacuba; and the best, Villa Maria, in Polanco. Villa Maria takes the prize, however, because of their innovative style of cooking, quality and presentation, as well as the overall atmosphere, including the Mariachis every night. Sanborn's Casa de los Azulejos has good atmosphere, but unexciting food, while their place on Reforma, near the US Embassy, has really good huevos rancheros. What I'm looking for are personal recommendations for new places to try. OK, now its your turn; let's hear about YOUR favorites.

One of my favorite restaurants in Mexico City is Fonda del Recuerdo in Colonia Veronica Anzures, close to the Plaza Galerias shopping center (approx. 5 min. taxi ride from Angel of Independence Monument). The restaurant features food and music from Veracruz. In addition to the food there are musicians playing/singing "sones" from Veracruz and, sometimes, there's an addition of traditional mariachi.

you and I may be the only ones who get out and about. Mexico is such an exciting city, and the food there is a never ending adventure.
