internet or phone access in the yucatan

HI, My husband and I are moving to our property near a small pueblo called Xaya. This is between Oxcutzcab and Tekax, about 98 kms. south of Merida, yucatan. Presently, there is no phone line there. If I cannot get a line installed, can anyone suggest ways of getting access to the phone and internet? If i can get a line installed, are there any isp,s nearby? We are arriving Nov.15/2005 and staying for 6 months. Rwilmer, from Ontario, Canada.

As far as a landline goes, you'll probably need to ask Telmex once you're in town, and plan on waiting. I checked with Telcel, and you will be able to use/buy cell phone in Xaya, although the only coverage they list is TDMA, which is an older cell phone protocol that may not be supported by a phone that you would normally use in Mexico.

Once you have a land line by TelMex you can get internet service thru Prodigy. I have heard about a satellite service available to those without land lines, but don't know any details except that it is very expensive to install, in the neighborhood of $2000 US.
