I am thinking of taking a bus trip to visit friends in Tucson, AZ, U. S. A. I will orginate from my home city of Guadalajara.
I have read that Elite bus line has service from GDL that goes all the way to Tucson, AZ. Has anyone had experience with this Elite Service, either from Tucson into Mexico or from Mexico into Tucson? Are there any other Mexican bus lines that have routes running clear to Tucson? Your input greatly appreciated.

Go to the bus terminal in GDL and ask the question there - and you will get the answer you're looking for, from people who can answer with a greater degree of certainty than the distinguished group of contributors on this wonderful website.

The reason I posted was because of the disappointing information I have received in the past from ticket agents in numerous bus stations. But, being an eternal optomist, I will try again at the GDL bus station.

Well dear hearts and gentle people, today I went to the bus terminal for GDL. I visited with the folks at Elite. The first young lady said that there was service from GDL to Tucson, AZ but she could not sell me a ticket and could not tell me the schedule, nor tell me how much it was.
Why? That is handled by Elite in another area of the bus terminal. So, I hiked over to that area, after learning where it was. The young lady there said there was no Elite service to Tucson. But, Autobuses Americanos (behind the same counter as she) had such service. she could not tell me anything about their service, though. OK, so I asked them. Yes, they could get me to the U. S. via Laredo, Texas, where I would have to find the Greyhound terminal and buy another ticket to Tucson. Then I asked the young lady if there was a connection from Mazatlan to Tucson. Oh yes. But you will have to get off the bus in Nogales, SN and cross the border and take the Greyhound bus to Tucson from their station. Can you sell me a ticket for the entire trip? Yes. But I do not know how much it is. Can you sell me a ticket for the trip from GDL to Nogales? Yes. How much is it? MN$1045. What is the schedule for this? (Now, I had already been told by the very first lady who could not sell me a ticket for the entire trip to Tucson that the first bus from GDL to Nogales left every other hour, starting at 8 AM until 12PM.) The second lady I asked the same question said there were two buses per day--8:30 AM and 12:30 PM. How much is it? I do not know. Can you tell me how much it is from Nogales to Tucson? I will have to check the greyhound web site. (It did not work at her terminal.) So she took me to Turi Star who also had a connection to the Greyhound site. Great! Now we are getting somewhere. BUT, Turi Star could not sell me a ticket and could not tell me how much the fare was. So, I thanked everyone for trying to help and left. Now, isn't that simple? Yes you can leave from here but you can't get there and we don't know how much it would be if you could. I think that is what I found out. I think I'll try the airlines. From what I have been able to find on line, no one flies directly to Tucson from Mexico or the other direction. Maybe I'll just stay home and bake a cheese cake instead. I've never done that. Wonder if I can find directions somewhere? Hmm, I wonder if...

I've attempted to send a very short reply to your great story, but the software here doesn't permit it . . . long messages only (how strange). So here's the short response I indended:

Joseph, I live in Alamos, Sonora and our local bus company TBC runs into Tucson and Phoenix. My husband just recently rode TBC to Guaymas on FM3 business (240 pesos roundtrip) and he tells me that the terminals in both Guaymas and Navajoa post bus service to Mazatlan. Last year I rode TBC from Tucson to Navajoa on what they called the Expresso Sinaloa. It was great, big new easy rider, made only three stops between Tucson and Navajoa (way to go!!!). Best I remember the fare was about $64.00 USD. So if you can get a bus from GDL to Mazatlan then I'm sure you can catch a north bound TBC at Mazatlan. Sorry I can't help with fares. Ginger |

Quién Soy Yo,
I have been living in Mexico for some years and have been coming to Mexico on exploratory trips for decades. I was fairly certain what I would learn if I went to the terminal in GDL and asked for information. That is why I querried the board. Thriftqueen, Thanks for your helpful information. Bus service in Mexico is excellent and I prefer to use it. Considering the cost of auto operation and the cost of tolls, it is usually cheaper to take the bus. Really great advantages for me are that someone else does the driving and I can enjoy the passing scenes. Also, I can get up and walk the aisle to get my circulation going again. Onboard comfort stations are good too. But, I find that the folks who sell tickets know nothing about routing beyond what tickets they sell. Often the counter staff can tell you when a bus will leave, but have no idea when it is expected to arrive at a destination. One has to understand, though, that if you get upset about anything, you are the only one upset and that never seems to help anything. A dear Mexican friend just looks at me when frustrating situations appear and says, 'See how we are?'

There is a bus line that goes to Tucson from Hermosillo. Leaves from the main bus terminal.
