I am going to be in PV and in Cabo. Can anyone tell me which location has the best snorkeling? I will only have time to snorkel at one or the other location. Finally, can anyone recommend which reef or bay in the chosen spot? When you only get one shot - you want to get it right.
Thanks, |

I'm certainly not a "snorkler", but I did snorkle in Cabo last week. Since snorkling is a battle to say the least along the resort side of Cabo San Lucas, the options we were told were to take a tour boat out to the end of the famous rock formations or thereabouts, or take the bus for a few miles back towards Cabo San Jose to Chileno Bay. We went to Chileno, a pretty little spot adjacent to the highway. If you take the bus just ask the driver to stop there, costs a couple dollars, and you can get back on by just waiting on the other side of the four lane highway, a bus comes every 10 minutes. Or there is a parking lot there if you drive. It was not teeming with tropical fish, but there were some, and it was a welcome respite from Cabo. I was not aware most of the beach at Cabo was vertical and rough, and the streets were teeming with more than the usual rabid time share etc. salesmen. We will leave Cabo for those that appreciate it.
We did not snorkle in Puerto Vallarta, but stay in Bucerias when we go, and look forward to getting there in December. One of the snorkle spots there is near Punta Mita just north of PV and Bucerias, I believe they wanted $40 for the boat ride out to the little islands there and back. There may be some right near PV, it all depends on where you are staying. When we were in Cabo four people almost drowned by the resort beaches, and two did drown on the Pacific beach side of the famous rocks, so pick wisely. The producer of the TV show "Hunter" and his sons drowned on the Cabo San Lucas resort beach while filming there in the past. Not trying to alarm, just keep your eyes open. Chileno bay was easy access and tranquil, and the historic district of Cabo San Jose a nice visit for a few hours. |

My sister was in PV two weeks ago and had a very good experience snorkeling there. She and her boyfriend hired a boat driver (about 400 pesos per person for about 4 hours time) to take them out to a volcanic island with good snorkeling. They saw lots of fish and thouroughly enjoyed the experience. No info on Cabo though.....

Hi, Baja Geoff.
I know a site where you can learn many things about snorkeling and other water sports. http:www.grupomayanbeaches.comInformation about: equipment, places for practice, wear, teaching it to your family, to your childs and more. Also, Grupo Mayan Resorts offer to his clients nice promotions. Probably you can find something interesting. Because they have the best places for stay in touristic beaches. |
