Default Uruapan/Patzcuaro

Hola!
Boy! Do I hate hackers!
I am still looking for advice re: our trip to Uruapan & Patzcuaro coming up. I have 4 nights to play with and I am debating whether or not to stay 2 nights in each place or just 1 night in Uruapan and 3 in Patzcuaro. I also would like a recommendation for a hotel in Uruapan - other than Mansion Cupatitzio which seems a bit pricey ($130 USD)and out of the way. I'd like to pay no more than about $85 USD and be able to walk around town. We will not have a car.
Thanks for your input! ANDREA

Default Patzcuaro and Uruapan Lodging

Hey Andrea,
I actually posted a reply to your question the night before we did get hacked ... hate 'em too, trust me. But the new system rocks!

Anyway, for a quick couple of lodging options, did you check out our city guides for those destinations? If not here are the links, you'll find several different places worth looking into:

Patzcuaro Directory
Uruapan Directory

Have fun,
Rolf

Thanx, Rolf - for the lead and for fixing the system! I've e-mailed several of the hotels on the site for info. Do you have any personal experience with any of them (or any others?) I'm pretty sure we'll stay 2 days in each place. ANDREA

I have not stayed in either place (yet, it's on my short list of destinations), but we do have local reps of MEXonline.com in the area. Margarita Pedraza would be happy to help you out, the Pedraza family runs the Mansion Iturbe Hotel in Patzcuaro, but she can tell you all about the other locations - brother Luis is on the local tourist board. Contact her at margarita@mexonline.com
Happy travels,
Rolf

Patzcuaro, where I live, is a far prettier place than Uruapan. But it is considerably smaller, too.

The Mansion Iturbe in Patz is a little on the costly side, if you are trying to avoid that. I am surprised at the Cupatitzio price you mentioned. Iīve passed the lobby of that Uruapan hotel numerous times, and I always noticed prices in the $70 USD range, tho I am sure they have higher-priced rooms.

If you simply show up in Uruapan, there are a number of perfectly good hotels on the plaza and right off it. Except under some very unusual circumstances, you could just walk in a get a room about anytime of year without a reservation. Uruapan is not a big tourist deal like Patzcuaro.

A good hotel in Patz is the Gran Hotel on the Plaza Chica.

Thanks for your input, Don; I'm glad to know that a reservation is really not completely necessary in Uruapan. Just curious, though ... how long have you lived in Patzcuaro and did you come from the States? If so, which one and how did you decide on Patzcuaro? ANDREA

Iīve lived in Patzcuaro five years. Moved here from Texas. Check on the websites just below for all the grisly and fascinating details.

By the way, Don isnīt my name. Don, like Doņa for women, is a Spanish way of speaking, similar to Mister and Mrs. in English.
