Default new vehicle import laws

Mexico adjusted its vehicle import laws on Aug 23/05. It allows the importation of passenger vehicles between 10 and 15 years old and carry less than 15 passengers to be nationalized. Does anyone know if you must have an FM3 or other paperwork in order to do so. I own a house north of Manzanillo and wish to take a car there and put Mexican plates etc to leave it at the house.

Default permanent residence

To nationalize a "chocolate", you need to be a permanent resident in Mexico.
FM3 will show permanent address here in Mexico. FMT (tourist visa) will not.

"chocolate",
Is that what that means? I've always wondered about all the signs around that say NO CHOCOLATES and have a big semi-truck on them; I guess they are referring to illegally purchased car/bus/truck trading. You learn somethin new every day.

Default old and senile

From "chocar" to crash or wreck, or "chocho" to be old or senile, hence,
Mexican humor, "chocolate" for old car (which has usually illegally been brought into country, mostly by Mexican Nationals) because they are cheaper in the US and Canada. Some municipalities are cracking down on
US plated cars, owned and driven by Mexican Nationals, without proper
import decals on windshield. Some, but not many, and not consistently.
Presidente Fox is now granting amnesty until December 31, 2005 so that
these cars can be legally nationalized, by both Mexican Nationals and
foreigners, legally living in country. Bear
