A good way to start......get the Baja Almanac and the Lonely Planet Guide to Baja......they will be really useful for planning the trip.....and will help out alot when you are down there too....

Looks like Amazon stocks both books, so if you gotta pay with credit, just use them.

Default Never mind LP and the Almanac

You'll do just fine with an AAA map. The Almanac is better suited for serious off road or marginal road driving.......and the AAA map covers all the roads you should consider driving unless you have a second vehicle.

For tips on camping in both areas, I'd post on the Baja Nomads board. Plenty of GREAT info on camping. Much more current than any guidebook.

BTW, camping options in Cabo proper are almost nil these days. There are a couple of RV parks but they are a few miles from party central, if that's why you're going.

But town keeps getting closer and closer every year.......

I'd suggest getting an inexpensive hotel in Cabo like the Mar de Cortez.
