Where do I stay in Mexico

Hello. My family and I are interested in spending the summer of 2006 in Mexico. We do not know where to start ( what city, lodging, etc... ) We want to rent a furnished 2 bedroom, with ac, and a washer machine. We want it to be financially reasonable. Do you want to live in area where very little English is spoken or a lot of English is spoken? A large expatriot community or none at all? Do you know any Spanish? Are you interested in Indigenous Cultures?
Do you want to live by the beach? in the mountains? near a lake? or a historic, Spanish colonial town in central Mexico?

There are so many options, I'd suggest getting a few books on Mexico and reading up a bit.

A book I like is called "Live Better South of the Border in Mexico" by Mike Nelson. I think gives you a fairly accurate, encapsulated look at a various places to live in Mexico - pros and cons.
