you can each carry 10,000 without declaring it at customs. use that for a good faith deposit and sign a promisory note for the balance. when you get home wire the rest. which broker(s) are you using, i may be able to make some suggestions.

Your message is a bunch of mish mash - and I had some difficulty following what you said.
Why aren't you asking your attorney at home, and the Notario Publico you're using in Mexico, how to handle the matter? That's what you should be doing instead of asking us. You can give your attorney the money and have him/her deposit it into an escrow account together with a limited power of attorney authorizing the attorney to act in this particular matter upon your specific instruction. Then, at the appropriate time, he/she can wire transfer the money to whom you direct in Mexico. Cashiers Checks from abroad often don't work well in Mexico, from what I see - banks are concerned about fraud (of which there is a lot of). The funds are still in the USA and won't be considered paid until the bank which has issued the Cashiers Check pays the funds into the account of the Mexican bank. In extreme cases, that can take days or even a week or two. And wire transfers don't always move swiftly, either. I've had what I thought was a transfer that would take 2 hours actually take 24 hours, unexpectedly. Make certain you have all of the Mexican bank branch routing numbers so that the transaction actually occurs. Call your attorney in the a.m. and advise him/her what you're up to. |
