Default Road from Mazatlan to Durango

Anyone know the road from Mazatlan to Durango well? We'll be driving a large Motorhome pulling a large 4x4. Grades, overpasses, etc.

Default Steep And Slow

Mex 40 is steep and winding. Make sure that your rig has the ability to get underway while towing on a steep grade if forced to stop. I would put the very largest capacity transmission cooler that I could find. Be sure to space the cooler one-inch in front of the radiator.

We've done it about 5 times. I don't remember any overpasses aside from Durango - 40 is pretty rural. Grades are steep but not terrible. There are a bazillion hairpin turns which can get interesting if you meet a semi. Stories about semis trading lanes in the turns are exagerated. You'll be close, but the trucks should clear.
I prefer starting from Mazatlan or Durango about 3AM, that way we're on the road well before the truck traffic. Get behind one of those old semis grinding up a grade at 5mph and driving in the dark doesn't seem so bad by comparison.

If you dont mind the twistingand turning you should be okay . But driving a big rig its going to be slow going. And they are working on the road. I would not advise it. It took us 6hrs to get from Mazatlan to Durango and that was in a Pontiac Transport Van.
