Satellite internet is not considered a broad band, it is as slow as dial up, stay with DSL or cable broad band service.

We're moving in Jan. and are trying to find high speed in PV. What companies offer it?

Satellite is NOT as slow as dial up. I dont know where you got that info. The latest systems are about 700 to 1000 kbps down and 130 up. You can get faster but the monthly rate goes up. Dialup in Mexico runs from 28 to maybe 45.

Chino1: You are living in the last century. All of the current systems are 2 way. No phone line is required. How did you think all of those mobile systems you see on motorhomes worked? Go to www.direcway.com and see for your self.

Even the latest satelite internet systems are hampered by extremely high latency, which is basically the time it takes for the signal to go from earth, to the sat, to the ground station, out to whatever internet site, back to ground station, up to the sat, and back down to you. The speeds are pretty fast, but only when transferring a reasonable amount of data. For surfing the web or doing anything that involves constantly sending requests to a server, its rather annoying. It is faster than dialup, but the prices are usually very VERY steep.

Unless you are travelling to extremely remote places often, you can probably find an internet cafe in the area you are visiting to plug your laptop in; many places also now offer free wireless in Mexico, so you may just need to buy a cup of coffee and sit and surf at high speed to your hearts content.
