Unhappy Traveling via roadtrip with purebred sentimental dog in Mex and Central America?

Hi, I am planning on driving through mainland Mexico on the Pacific side from California, USA, with my pit bull terrier dog who is well trained and very friendly to humans. I was wondering if anybody has ever done this, or encountered any problems with pets when crossing state borders in Mexico and country borders in Central America? He is neutered, and has all of his shots. He is a showdog, and I have heard that the dogs value (monetary and sentimental) might be leverage for corrupt police or border inspections, to fine me or take the dog from me? I know this is kind of specific, but I really appreciate anyones info/experiences. I have traveled in Mexico via roadtrip before, but never with a pet. Thanks so much.

-Matt

No problems what so ever, sure you will find some hotels or motels that would not allowe pets but we always find some hotels that will, as for the check points in the road you will not have any problems actually they like dogs and they always concentrate more on the dogs then on searching our vehicle.

I've heard from friends that pets shouldn't be any problem. Nevertheless, be careful, they may have been just lucky.

Default Mexicans Are Now Very Eager To Own Purebreds

And your's is one of the top breeds that are coveted. You should keep an eye on your pet and not assume that there would not be any dog nappers around.
