I'm looking to visit places where small wooden fishing boats are still used and made by hand... canoes, sailboats, rowboats, 20 feet or less in length, and painted colorfully. Any suggestions? thanks.

If you are willing to go all the way to the southern part of Mexico, you can encounter a lot of beautiful fishing villages on the Pacific coast of Chiapas. Check out Boca del Cielo, just avoid it during Mexican holidays if you don't like a crowd.
Hope this helps. |

Try Puerto Vallarta downtown at the bay. There is a daily fish market on the beach first thing in the morning. The boats are all handmade and colourful, some hand rowed and some motorized.
Mazatlan also has many small boats but you need to go down to the docks in order to find them. If you go past El Cid to the end of the penninusla there are lots of seafood shacks where the local fisherman sell their days catch. Laurel SMA & Vancouver.

Thank you for replying! That is exactly the kind of information I'm looking for. Can you provide me any more specific details, or can you steer me to someone who can?
