I found some old Mexican Pesos in the back of my drawer - about 12000. The local bank told me they are not exchangeble to US Dollars because they are dated prior to 1996. The dates on the paper money is 1984, 1987, 1989. Does anyone know if this is true?

your bank is right. My best guess is they are worth < 10 New Mexican Pesos (which is the peso that is in use today)...or about a dollar. Although a coin collecting shop might give you a tad over that, I'd just save them for the memories.

The old Pesos are worth according to rough my calculation 1000 pesos = 1 buck, 12,000 Pesos it will be 12.00 bucks or less, if they still accept it.

Old pesos are only good to collectors ... they are not legal tender. You can buy shrink wrapped packs of them for a few bucks.
