Default what can i bring in to Mexico for gifts for my wedding guests?

I have 40 people going to Mexico from the US. I have bags for each guest consisting of chocolates, candles, soaps, candies, rolaids, cards, etc..
Can I bring all these in a suitcase ? Can I ship them? Is there any taxes I would have to pay on these items?
If made in China can they still come into the country?

Hola Kathie -

Congratulaions on your upcoming wedding.

Here's a link to the Aduana's (Customs) site - http://www.aduanas.sat.gob.mx/aduana...008/index.html - that explains what you can bring into Mexico.

I would strongly advise against shipping anything as you'll need a customs broker to do that and the package may or may not show up in time for the celebration.

oh my... why do some people make this so hard??
you are just going to mexico! if they look into your luggage, just tell them it's for a wedding! smile, and be respectful! that's it! i bet they will smile back, and let you be on your way.

Default Don't make up bags beforehand

Keep all the items separate, in one checked suitcase, then fill the bags after arrival. Checked luggage is selected for inspection at random, in your presence, thus the chances of your being stopped are small. Should you be chosen for inspection, do as another poster suggested; smile and explain what the items are for, and you'll most likely be sent on your way, a happy visitor to Mexico. Country of origin for the items shouldn't be of interest, unless you're trying to bring in unprocessed food items. If you happen to have a copy of the wedding announcement or invitation, pack that too, and show it to the inspector IF YOU ARE STOPPED. Don't volunteer.

Default 40 people goint to Mexico

Why not relax and make it so easy on yourself. Take the gift bags and maybe the soaps but any and everything else including the above can be purchased there in a matter of minutes. why sweat it, have a great time.

I think it would be great to fill the gift bags with Mexican items, in keeping with the Mexican wedding theme!!!!!
