Default Travel within Baja & Visas

We plan to take a bus to Ensenada in early November, then cruise to Cabo San Lucas by private boat. We will then return to the U.S. by commercial air from Cabo in late November. We are U.S. citizens.

Do we need a Visa? Is Cabo San Lucas (and all of Baja) within the "Travel Zone" or "Border Zone"?

Default Visa Requirements

Hola Jim -

According to the US State Department:

All Americans traveling by air outside the United States are required to present a passport or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.

See http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p...y-requirements for additional information.

Have a great trip!

Warmest regards -
Sheri

Unhappy Papers needed for Mexico

Oh yes you deffinately need a passport to get back into the country if you are flying to Mexico rather it be from the Us or Tijuana. I just went through this with a grandson trying to get him home from Cabo. If I was not so tired I would tell you but the bottom line is PASSPORT and they are not a bit sympathetic.

PS. Have a great time, I spend a lot of time in Mexico and the past 4 years I have driven over 7,000 mile from San Diego to Chiapas and many other places.

NO........... only as far as Ensanada. You will have to have a passport and then you can get your visa in TJ or if it is more convenient probably now there is an adwana in Ensenada where you can get it. You may know this but just in case not. On the paper you fill out for your visa it will ask how long you plan on being in Mexico regardless of the time be sure to put 6 months, the maximum time you are allowed. Reason for this..... It keeps you out of trouble as when you leave the country you have to turn your visa in and if you have overstayed the time you put you are in deep doo do. speaking from experience.

Get your tourist visa (FMT) just as you cross the border at Mexican Immigration. If you get it further south you will probably be fined about $50 per person....not worth the hassle. Have your American passport and drivers license when you apply for the FMT, and request 180 days (the max). the FMT will cost about $22 USD.
