We are flying into Guadalajara, Mexico and wondering if there are certain food items that we cannot bring into Mexico from the U.S.? We are bringing coffee beans, cheese, butter, peanut butter, salad dressings, etc.

First of all..why are you bringing this stuff? You can buy it all in Mexico, the best coffee I have ever tasted is grown in Mexico and far fresher than what you are probably bringing. Jiff and Skippy peanutbutter can be bought, among with some national brands. Except for a good hard, sharp cheddar I can get most any cheeses.......... Bottom line is, if you are bringing in foods for personal use you probably won´t have a problem but you will be missing out on a good time shopping and enjoying the culture.

On My Last Trip Security Was Not Letting Through Peanut Butter, And Salad Dressing. I Doubt They'll Let You Take Butter Either. Not Sure About Cheese...
Just Hit The Grocery Store In Gdl, They Carry All Of That. Suerte! |

Mexican butter, in my opinion isn't very good. Some foods are better in Mexico, some aren't.

Thanks for your reply's. Yes, USA butter is much better than in Mexico so hope that what we bring isn't taken in customs.

Here in Los Cabos, American (Challenge and Land 'o Lakes brands) and New Zealand butter is sold at many stores, so if you're heading this way, don't bother bringing your own butter.

I have not seen vegemite in central Mexico. Bajaceresa is correct as you can buy many U.S. products at stores in Mexico. We have WalMart, Sam's Club and Costco with wide arrays of products in our area. In central Mexico we have Mega foods which has a great selection of international products.
Enjoy the products available here and leave the hassle of what food items you can bring back home. Embrace the culture of Mexico and don't put more stress on yourself. Enjoy your visit here. My husband and I have traveled extensively in Mexico and have seen many items confiscated at the border and in airports.

We just returned from our 5 weeks in Manzanillo, flying into Guadalajara. Our ice chest was inspected and it was ok to bring cheddar cheese (4 lbs) and butter (2 lbs). We didn't need to bring peanut butter ... we found Jiff in the grocery store. Our friends packed the peanut butter in their carry-on so it was taken by TSA at LAX because it was a paste! We found wonderful meat in a little meat market not far from our condo in Las Brisas. We ate really good!!! Can't wait until we can return!!!
