I will be entering Mexico via Nogales. I have taken a car into Sonora free zone before but never as far as Mazatlan. I already have insurance on the car. I know I need a car permit to go to Mazatlan but I have a couple of questions:
1) the finance company doesn’t want to give me a copy of the title but I do have a copy of the registration. Will the registration AND a letter of permission from the finance company suffice to get a permit? I am towing the vehicle behind a motorhome. 2) A) are vehicle permits given for only a specified period of time and B) can I ask for the time period to coincide with my tourist visa? Thanks to all! |

Point #1. If the registrations for the car is in your name, don't even bother about the finance company. Mexican Customs & Immigration have no way of knowing your vehicle has a lien on it unless you tell them.
You say you are towing the car behind a motorhome. I've read somewhere that you can only have one motorized vehicle per person.....better check that out. You may have to ensure that the registration for one of the vehicles is in your passenger's name. Point #2 A&B Vehicle permits are valid for 180 days, but I would make sure to ask that the vehicle permit will be granted for as long as your tourist card. The way around that is to make sure you request the maximum 180 days on your tourist card; there's no advantage to requesting a shorter time period for your tourist card. The best crossing at Nogales is west of town, called the Mariposa crossing. When you are leaving Mexico, they will remove the temporary vehicle import permit sticker from the inside of your windshield. Make sure you also hand-in your tourist card there. Once, when we returned to the USA, we didn't hand-in the tourist card....because they didn't ask for it. We ended up mailing it to a Mexican consulate in Vancouver, requesting that they record the fact we had left Mexico. |

You will require 2 vehicle permits. Your MH will be issued a 10 year permit. Your toad will get a 6 month sticker. If you are thinking of selling your MH when you return to the USA make sure you turn in the 10 year permit. Otherwise you are good for the 10 years.

you should be ok with the documents you have , your fmt visa usually they stamp it for 90 days or 180 days. you fmt is good for 180 days. if you are going to stay a little longer you can get an extencion. if you have gone pass the 180 days for the car permits, you will need to get a 5 day permit that allows you to leave mexico with your motorhome/car. its free and you get that at the local SAT office.
