What is happening to property prices in Mexico, I am particulary interested in vacation rentals. I have heard that Puerto Vallarta is a good area to invest, does any one know anymore about it?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

i am not sure how prices are effected at the moment..... i do know that puerto vallarta is great and is located in the state of jalisco.... then you have the other side wich is in nayarit..... they refer to it as "riviera nayarit" high end homes are located at punta mita ... (million dollar homes) along with the four seasons resort... there is also the st regis under construction... so the are is attracted by those high end resorts..
a lot of the high end homes have been designed by world wide known mexican architects.. i would suggest looking at the high rise towers where the main frame is constructed with steel..... |

Although Mexico is well prepared and wise against financial crisis this one comes from up north and is certainly tough, so the economy is slowing down and the peso is loosing ground (This means your dollars are worth more at this moment). All those huge projects throughout the country already on the build are going on providing a very good signal.
However, the middle class continues to grow shielding the domestic market. In the “foreigners” side of the Real Estate arena what I see happening at the moment is a very slow pace. I personally don't think depreciation will show its face and since crisis come and go, sooner or later things will come back to normal and North Americans and Mexican will continue to acquire much-wanted vacation or second home property. So far the property prices in the vacation rentals and the major cities do not seem to be too affected by the global recession. A large reason for that may be that there was not a major "bubble" effect in Mexico.

I'm also scheduling a trip to Mexico mid this year but I do wonder about the prices of those vacation rentals. Where can I find cheap but good ones?

Los Cabos is generally acknowledged to be the most pricey of the Mexican resorts and over the past six or seven years, real estate prices rose considerably. Those who have may discover bargains, as properties that have languished on the market for a year or two are beginning to sell. Those who have more will find incredible deals, as many owners/developers of high-end properties are repricing to sell. I just heard from a very reliable source that an oceanfront home at El Dorado that had carried a $15M price tag just sold for $7.5M. See www.mexonline.com/cabo-realestate-agents.htm for a list of agents in Los Cabos that can provide you with more information.
How is real estate market doing in your part of the country?
