My father currently living in Mexico wants to sell a piece of property he own's in the U.S. I sent him a power of attorney document that he properly validated with a public notary in Mexico. The notary is in Spanish. The court house here will not accept this. They state the document is not acceptable to the court. The county clerk at the courthouse will not accept a notary validation written in Spanish. My father is a U.S. citizen and is very ill so time is most important. What do I do? Where do I go? Any advise anyone? Thank you....................

I would go to US Embassy in Mexico, they have the list of the Spanish/English translators that they will accept the translation and notarize for you.

The notary public working at the U.S. Consulate/Embassy in Mexico City is the route I'd take. Maybe a U.S. Consular office that may be closer to him in Mexico will provide the same service. Call ahead and ask. That certification will be acceptable in the USA to just about anyone. A Notario Publico in Mexico is not the same as a notary public in the USA - two completely different types of people/work.
