Hi, I really want to bring my car over from Scotland to Mexico where i'm living...
I guess this isn't an easy task, but can it be done with regards to legal documents etc? Can I keep my car on brittish number plates or do I need to convert it to mexican plates? Also if i leave mexico can i sell my car here or do i need to take it back....which i would prefere not to do as its really expensive! Any help would be much appreciated... Thanks, Marko |

Need more info: Do you want to legally import your car from Europe permanently? The answer to that is NO. What is your immigration status? FMT, FM3,FM2? Maybe someone esle knows of a way but I think it is impossible.

hi, yeh i would like to bring it over permanently. I am here as a tourist at the moment but i could get the required visa if required. Also my girlfriend is lives here she is Mexican... so maybe itīs easier if she imports it with all the documents in her name?
Does anyone know of any way this is possible... Thanks very much for any help, Marko |

Your car can only be imported temporarily and you can use your own licence plates (which should be kept current). The importation can be done only by you, the registered owner with a major credit card in the same name to post the bond which requires that you remove the car from Mexico when you leave on a tourist visa. If you have an FM3, you may leave the car in Mexico while you travel elsewhere temporarily, but you must take it out if you leave permanently or if your FM3 is about to expire. With an FM2, you may leave for a more limited amount of time, but at the end of 5 years you must remove the car from Mexico permanently and buy a car in Mexico and register it in Mexico.there are many auto manufacturers in Mexico and they are protected in this manner. There are rare and limited exceptions to the above, but they only apply to autos manufactured in NAFTA countries.
