If you are thinking of buying your material in the U.S., you are not going to have anything left to open a business. Why would you consider such an idiotic thing. Bring your USD's and purchase what you need here and you might have some change left in your pocket. Food is the most inexpensive thing you can buy here with USDs., especially vegetables. Good luck to you and hope everything goes well. I'm afraid you will need some paperwork unless you are a Mexican National, especially running a business, all friends or not. They have strict rules here for business owners.

I agree with Elaine, don't try to open a business in Mexico without the proper working visa or someone perhaps a competitor is almost certain to notify the Mexican Immigration authorities and even most Mexicans don't care to spend anytime in one of the jails down here!

If you are seriously thinking of opening any business in Mexico you are in for a large pile of paperwork. You will first have to get an FM2 and show a great deal of money in the bank. The other people are right in that you will be turned in no matter how friendly they may seem now. At the least if you open anything illegally you will have all of your equipment seized! Not to mention the huge fine you will incur. I spent 15 months trying to open a charter sail business and was blocked the entire way. We finally brought the boat back to the US. The mexican businessman is very very wary of anyone going into competition with him, especially a gringo. Good Luck. You will need it. Maybe a better idea would be to find a partner in the USA and ship some handicrafts. I do that now, but am having trouble trying to find a reliable person to help me ship the stuff up here. The handicrafts I buy do sell fairly well here. How close to Guadalahara are you. Let me know. Allen
