Wink Looking for economical winter rentals in Manzanillo or Ixtapa

Thanks everyone for your input...nothing really turned up so we booked again for this coming winter in Mazatlan.

We are a retired Canadian couple looking to rent a apartment or condo
in either Manzanillo or Ixtapa for Jan., Feb., and Mar., 2006. The price can't
exceed $ 700 to $ 800 US a month. Any takers?

Geez,
All of the rentals I've seen are from greedy condo conglomorates that want big American bucks....
I would think about changing my long distance carrier (if necessary) and CALLING the folks in Mexico directly. You could also find a cheap(er) hotel and then scramble like hell for a week or two to find something reasonable.
The winter is "temporada alta" and Mexicans and greedy Americans wait all year to bilk snowbirds - like you.

BE CAREFUL.

Note back to you.
Since Ixtapa is generally known as a "timeshare town" you might be better off going to Zihuatenajo a few miles away. We spent two weeks there after last Christmas and fell in love with the most beautiful bay we have ever seen.
We were right on the beach (in a hotel) and loved it. It is about 50 cents to go to town, or 2.00 by taxi but we would go back again in a New York Minute.
The sun is very hot there, so be careful. 8/19/05

Try posting a message at:

http://www.zihuatanejo.net/wwwboard/

There are several people there who spend winter months in apartments in Zihuatanejo. They can probably make some suggestions.

In any case, Zihuatanejo is more of a place to live than is Ixtapa. While my wife and I have spent many enjoyable vacations of a few weeks in Ixtapa, we thought of it more of a place to visit than a place to live.

Forget Rentals In Ixtapa It Is Hotel City. Go To Zihuatanejo For Resonalble Rents And Good Ambiente. i FORGOT YOU TELL YOU THAT THE MONTHS YOUR ARE GOING IN ARE IN THE RAIN SEASON. BUT IT MOST OF THE TIME IT RAIN AT NIGHT.

Jan., Feb., and Mar ... is the rainy season ??? Right now is the rainy season.

You can get nice places for $300us and up in smaller towns but hard to arrange without being here. Also those three months are the favorites of everyone from up north.

Look at Melaque and Barra de Navidad a little north of Manzanillo

It is already growing here (Melaque) but will it ever be another Zihua. I don't think it's possible ... at least not in my lifetime. I just drove thru Zihua on the way north and it's huge. Oh well, it's all about tourism but until they decide to build some all inclusives we're probably safe.
