Questions about Mexicali

Hello all! Going to Mexicali soon and was wondering about how secure Gringos are there. I have only been to Puerto Penasco and have no problems there. Outside of the obvious things ( lock the truck, don't wave large amounts of cash around, etc ) how careful must I be. I will be traveling alone. Thanks in advance.
