Hola
Anyone know where to buy floor or decrative tile in the GDL area? I am looking for the manufacturer.....not retail outlet. A building supply place may be OK. I bought some in Vallarta at a building supply outlet north of the Sheraton about 4 blocks last year and paid 35% of what the turismo azulejos tienda wanted for the same stuff. This boarder tile was made in Spain tho and mailed from GDL to fill my order. 30 pieces was about $25 usd as opposed to $2.50 per piece at the store in Old Vallarta near the south oulet of the city. I will be going thru GDL soon on my way to Chapala. Gracias |

Ricardo - My husband & I visited Ajijic and the surrounding area about a year ago and are returning next week for a few days. We found it truly delightful! Ajijic was friendly (people actually smiled and greeted us on the street) and full of interesting sights, sounds and smells, and artwork. There are plenty of American & Canadian residents and housing developments have sprung up to accommodate them, although we didn't actually go there. There are also lots of realtors with tons of info. The "Chapala Society" is there and they are welcoming and helpful in learning the history of the area and getting involved. The nearby towns of Chapala & San Antonio couldn't be more different, but both were great - Chapala being the busiest of them all. We did notice that on the weekend, there was an influx of city-folk from Guadalajara, many with their families, weekending in the area. A drive around the lake took us to more rural towns and the mountains were a real treat on the western side and into Michoacan. There are plenty of buses and wonderful cabbies who are there to make your stay easy. The lake itself has been having problems, but the locals were optimistic that it was improving - we'll find out how that's going very soon. Personally, I also like the proximity to the large city of Guadalajara and the access to quality medical, cultural and shopping experiences. I hope this has helped a bit, but you really should head down and check it ot for yourself - you won't regret the trip even if you don't move there!
