$450. USD PER MONTH -
2 BR/2BA Condo complex, approx. 900 sq ft. Slate floors, tiled baths. Excellent condition. 2nd story. Professional upscale seaside residential neighborhood. It's has a neighborhood feeling and has professional/blue collar families. Utilities approx., (cable/internet, water, gas and electric) $100 per mo. Land line hook-up and Verizon/Nextel cell service. 10 minutes to the border and 20 minutes to Rosarito Beach. Photos can be found on craigslist.com/sandiego Rental section. 08/24/05. Contact the owner: “Alex” Alejandro Carrillo Perez (speaks english) alekmo@hotmail.com or Cell: 011 52 044 664 628-0863 Telephone: 011 52-664 622-1045 Just some background: I'm posting this as a favor to the landlord. When I moved here I had a temp Mexican visa and brought down a u-haul trailer with personal effects (bed, furniture, computer, TV, etc.). I crossed the border on the regular lane and was pulled over for an inspection. They asked what my purpose was, I told the guards I rented an apartment in Playas and with a cursory inspection they passed me through. I am moving back to Long Beach, but loved this apt and the location. Things to know. There is a functioning land line (Telnor (mexican ATT) has various plans: I have prepay. It's $15.00 per mo. + 100 free local calls.) Also my cell carrier is Verizon and with their California plan I can use my cell phone from Playas. Signal works 75% of the time. For $5.00 more, calls made to Mexico are .20 cents. Nextel also offers inter-border connections. Utilities are in the landlords name. Cablemax (in your name) (cable) has cable and internet services. (Rabbit ears work for about 6 channels) Car insurance is a should have (cost for the value of the car/fire-theft-damage, liability, med and legal/bond runs $239 per year. (I used Oscar Padilla Mexian Insurance @ mexicaninsurance.com) Playa has 3 major super markets, 14 Star Movie theater and two malls. Tijuana (10 min) has costco, officemax, and gas anywhere is now $2.20 per gal. If you work in San Diego, the border is a stiff crossing, but you can catch a bus/taxi popular from Playa to the border, walk across and if you work along the red line, it's a relatively easy commute. Medical: for insurance you can find a complete file under IMSS here on mexonline (runs 271.00 USD per year @60 yrs +). Without ins. Medical visits run about $30 and are mostly walk-in with full attention and english speaking physicians. Dental is: cleaning $30. crowns $160. I'm sad to leave after a year and would stay if circumstances permitted. Please contact owner regarding lease, any other questions feel free to contact me. Great post Robert! For anyone considering the move, you've really laid out all the facts!
Just one little clarification for anyone not familiar with San Diego, the red line you refer to is the San Diego Trolley. |

Bella - Thanks for the positive review, muchly appreciated. Thanks also for the clarification. Sometimes things get stuck in my mind like, it should be called the red line cause is looks so much like the old red caboose car. Go figure. It's the San Diego Trolly folks. Excellent service - inexpensive for those of use over 62, and it's red. Robert
